Healing part 4 – Free from ALL sickness and disease — Bible study

These notes are for this study are below the video….

I. Intro

  • We’re laying a foundation for you to walk in divine health
    • Not just going from healing to healing — but to experience the wholeness
    • to experience the soundness that Jesus redeemed for you – spirit, soul and body
  • 3 Jn 1:2: Beloved concerning ALL things I pray you prosper and be in health just as your soul prospers
    • Prosper in ALL things – experience wholeness in ALL things
      • Prosper is euodoo and it is from 2 words – eu meaning well, good, successful; and hodos meaning journey
      • Health is hugios and it’s ROOT is wholeness
    • Our journey in this life is to experience wholeness – to BE whole because that’s who we are
    • The wholeness that He came to reveal was already yours – before the foundation of the world
  • Ephesians 1:3-4: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with ALL spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: (4) According as (exactly as) He hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world…..
    • God decided before He ever created man that we would have an experience of abundant life – an experience of life and joy and wellbeing and prosperity
  • Problem is that the church has been walking in much less than that for many generations, many centuries – and we’ve kind of gotten used to life from that perspective – expecting sickness, lack, worry, etc.
    • We’ve allowed our circumstances – our experiences – to set the bar for us rather than what God has established for our lives
  • So in this study of wholeness we’re going to continue to try and raise our vision and increase our expectation

Last week we didn’t recap – so tonight we’re just going to recap what we’ve learned so far before going farther

II.  Recap

  • Romans 15:4 the things that were written before (referring to the Old Testament) – were written for our instruction that through the encouragement and patience of the Scriptures we might have hope
    • hope means confident expectation
    • the things that were written before in the Old Testament were written for our instruction in order to give us a confident expectation in the fulfillment of God’s will and purpose in our lives – which is wholeness in every area of life
  • then Paul said in 1 Cor 10:11 the things that happened to Israel happened as examples and they too were written for our admonition or instruction upon whom the ends of the ages have come
    • admonition is nousthesia combining two words – mind and setting or placing
    • so Paul is saying these things that happened to Israel were written for our instruction or for our mind placement
  • Then we went to 1 Peter 1:10-12 and we saw that the things that were written or prophesied or spoken were spoken by prophets who didn’t understand exactly what they were referring to, but they discovered later on that they were revealing the grace, the glory (the original view and  opinion of God and His nature and acts in manifestation), and the gospel (good news) message that would come
    • and so as we go back in to the Old Testament we’ll use the parameters that Peter gave us we are only going to extract the grace, the glory (the view and opinion of God), and the gospel or the good news
    • we don’t want to bring with us the legalism of the Old Covenant because when we do we put ourselves in bondage and we become sin conscious
    • we are only going to place our minds on the grace, the glory and the good news
  • Let’s go back and look at Exodus 15 again —
    • remembering that these things were written for our instruction to give us an expectation of wholeness in every area of our lives

Exodus 15:25-26: And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them, (26) And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.

  • this first portion of verse 26 is NOT a list of requirements that are to be fulfilled by you – your healing is not contingent upon if you diligently hearken to the voice of God, do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments, or keep all His statutes!
    • ALL of that has been fulfilled for you by the Lord Jesus Christ
      • no man could have ever fulfilled that series of requirements except the Lord Jesus
    • so when someone says your healing depends upon you doing these things that preceded this in v. 26
      • your response should be NO that was fulfilled for me by Jesus — I don’t need to do that
    • now that doesn’t mean I don’t live an outwardly righteous and holy life – allowing righteousness and holiness (that is my true nature) to be reflected in my outward life
      • but it means that when I fail, and I will, that I am not going to lose the benefits of this great redemption
    • Why?
      • Because my redemption and ALL of the wonderful benefits are based on His obedience… not mine.
    • we also said that these things were written for US
    • so, when it says there in v. 25 there, He made a statute and an ordinance for them
      • we need to understand that He made a statute and an ordinance for US
      • this is for us not just for them — what happened to them happened to them as an example for us — written for our instruction, our mind placement
  • And we used a methodology called types and shadows while looking at the story of the Exodus
    • Egypt as a type of sin – the condition; not sin the behavior; the condition that we most commonly refer to as spiritual death – that is sin
    • Egyptians being a type of the attributes of sin; the characteristics of death; the things that come as a result of sin; the sickness, disease, poverty, the behavioral failures, addictions, etc
    • Pharaoh is a type of Satan from this pharaoh forward
    • Red Sea is a type of the blood of Jesus

Deut 7:15: and the Lord will take away from you ALL sickness and will afflict you with NONE of the terrible diseases of Egypt which you have known but will lay those upon all those who hate you

  • So, God has equated sickness and disease ONLY with Egypt – or sin the condition; spiritual death
    • because Egypt was a type of sin
    • we however, are no longer in sin
  • What does the New Covenant say to you?
    • That He has become sin and you have become righteousness of God in Christ Jesus (2 Cor 5:21)
    • Therefore, we are no longer sin BUT righteousness – we’re talking conditions not behavior
  • So, because we are no longer sin, what He’s telling us is that we NO LONGER have an association with sickness and disease
    • this will be hard to swallow, it will take some real reflection and some meditation – making your confession: “I’m going to receive the word and believe that this word is a superior word to the one I have been familiar with that has allowed me to dwell in Egypt (sin) among the Egyptians (death – sickness, disease, poverty, etc.) when in fact I have been COMPLETELY delivered from Egypt and the Egyptians, from sin, sickness, disease, lack, fear, etc.”
    • there will be some who struggle with this and at times we’ll be tempted to reject it
      • But don’t reject it, because I promise you these truths offer you a lifetime of health — of wholeness in EVERY area of your life
    • these truths put you in contrast with some of the church and definitely with the world around you, but you have to STAND FIRM in what the word reveals – no matter what everyone else says
      • so that you can walk out of this Egyptian influence of sickness, disease, lack, etc and in to the influence of health and wholeness
  • So — we’re no longer sin AND therefore we no longer have any association with disease
  • Look at verse 15 again and notice that God said none of the diseases OF Egypt
    • the word “of” is declaring a possessive relationship between Egypt and disease
    • in other words, they were cause and effect
      • Egypt was the cause — Disease was the effect
  • Romans 5:12 through one man, sin entered the world and death through sin
    • sin (the condition) was the cause – death was the effect
    • death has many manifestations, many devastating activities, poverty, sickness, premature death, addictions, behavioral difficulties, fear, etc. these are all DEATH in manifestation working in our lives
  • But we need to realize is this is a cause and effect relationship
    • God is saying to them – when you were in Egypt there was disease (it had a possessive relationship) – BUT you’re not in Egypt so there is no disease
    • Likewise, for us – we are NOT in sin (condition) anymore and there is no disease in us either!
      • physical disease had its roots in spiritual death or sin the condition
      • remember that the Egyptians are a type of death — the effects of sin
  • Matt 2:15 out of Egypt have I called my Son – you are the son of God – as He is so are you!
    • Gal 4:7 says we are ALL sons of God in Christ
    • out of Egypt have I called My son – we are NO LONGER in Egypt!
  • So, if we’ve left Egypt (a type of sin the condition) behind what else have we left behind?
    • the Egyptians (sickness, disease, lack, etc)!
  • Physical disease is NOT of biological origin
    • but what about when someone with a virus breathes on you? Can’t I catch what they have?
      • No, truly it doesn’t make any difference
    • there are people who because they understand the word of God, you can breathe on them all you want with that virus and they won’t catch anything
    • John G Lake during the plague in Africa, had bubonic plague germs (highly contagious) poured in his hand so that those around him could understand that the spirit of life in Christ Jesus had made him free from the law of sin (the condition) and death (sickness, disease, lack, etc)
      • scientists looking through the microscope saw immediately that the organisms died when they touched his hand
  • Why? How was that possible?
    • because he understood that he was righteous – He understood that he no longer had association with sickness and disease, therefore it had no power over him
    • because disease is NOT of biological origin
      • ALL disease originated and sprung up from that spiritual condition called sin – Deut 7:15: the terrible diseases OF Egypt (sin).
    • the authority of disease exists only in sin — sin the condition, NOT sin your behavior

Exodus 14:27: Moses stretched out his hand over the sea and when the morning appeared the sea returned to its full depth while the Egyptians were fleeing into it, so the Lord overthrew (shook off) the Egyptians in the middle of the sea.

  • What is the sea a type of?
    • The blood of Jesus
  • So the Lord God overthrew or shook off the Egyptians….
    • over threw ALL of the effects of sin – all of the characteristics of death that were the effects of sin – in the midst of the sea
    • shook them off; overthrew them!
      • overthrow is naar in Hebrew meaning to shake out or off; the ROOT is to growl – through the idea of the rustling of mane, which usually accompanies the lion’s roar
  • The Lion of Judah ROARED IT IS FINISHED overthrowing ALL sickness, disease, poverty, fear, lack, depression, addiction, etc!!
    • we as believers don’t always believe that because our experiences contradict it
    • but don’t let your experience tell you what to believe — do NOT let your experience become your authority
  • The authority of disease is ONLY in sin – the condition
    • and YOU have NEVER had association with sin in all of your life
  • Hebrews 9:26 says He put away — that word literally means cancelled sin — by the sacrifice of Himself
    • He cancelled the condition of spiritual death by the sacrifice of Himself 2000 years ago!
    • it was cancelled before you were ever born! You were never IN Egypt – you’ve always been IN CHRIST
  • So, disease today is ONLY through an ASSUMED association with sin
    • in other words when we allow ourselves to accept sickness and disease it’s BECAUSE we are assuming that we are still in some way associated with the condition of sin
      • for example we do that by still referring to ourselves as sinners saved by grace, or by not seeing ourselves as completely 100% justified – free from sin, in other words sinless
      • or because we don’t realize God is no longer imputing sin against anyone, and not realizing the truth of Heb 10:12: because that the worshippers once (once for all) cleansed should have had no more conscience of sins.
  • but when we really get the revelation that we are truly the righteousness of God in Christ — that there has been a full and complete exchange between Jesus and us
    • then WE will say just like Jesus did in John 14:30: the ruler of this world cometh but he has NOTHING in Me
    • He has NOTHING! — He has no authority, no power in me!
  • Now, going back to Deut 7:15the terrible diseases OF Egypt which you have known
    • we see that disease HAD BEEN the experience of Israel while they were in Egypt
      • they had EXPERIENCED the terrible diseases of Egypt – some most likely died from them, lost babies to childhood diseases, and some probably weathered them and got better
      • because while they were associated with Egypt there was a devastating price to be paid in association with Egypt
    • so it says…. the terrible diseases OF Egypt which you HAVE KNOWN
  • But then notice that he says — but I (the Lord) will take away from you ALL sickness
    • I will take away from you ALL sickness — ALL! Not some, not just the big ones, leaving the small things – NO He said ALL!
    • And He was not saying — I will take away from you all sickness on a case by case basis
      • Now, thank God for the mercy of God and that He will take away sickness on a case by case basis – meeting us where we are at
      • BUT in both verse — Exodus 15 (I am the Lord who heals you) and this verse in Deut. 7:15 (I will take away from you ALL sickness) — what he’s communicating is a COMPLETED FINISHED action
    • He’s referring to a once for all – Out of Egypt – out of sin
  • He wants you to have a higher vision — a greater understanding
    • understanding that He has ordained for you to live in THIS WORLD free from sickness and disease
    • let’s set our sights that high!!
    • and begin to walk out of the experience of sickness, disease, poverty, fear, anger, etc. and into the experience of wholeness!
  • So, if we’ve left Egypt (sin) —  and we have
    • and if God overthrew the Egyptians (sickness, disease, lack, etc.) — and He has
    • then you are 100% COMPLETELY free of ALL sickness and disease FOREVER!

Next week we’ll look at why, if we are truly free, we’re still experiencing sickness and disease in our lives
