MA Biblical Studies Essay — Our Divinity

God is Love. 100% pure love. Everything He thinks, says and does flow out of pure love. And His love is eternal. It always was, is and will be. It can never change… can never be diluted, tainted, or withdrawn. An unquenchable love! Love that longs for and desires to be with another… so much that it makes your heart ache. And the object of this great love is, will forever continue to be, and always has eternally been mankind.

It is Ahava. Ahava in Hebrew is said to be the sound of breathing. We can see that in Genesis 2:7 when Love breathed the breath of His life into man. Love forever had us imprinted in His heart before the foundation of the world…. Breathing His life into us created an inseparable union that could never be broken by any of mankind’s failures. That breath of love, making us in His very own image and likeness… divine beings who would rule and reign over all creation as eternal, love releasing, life-giving sons of God.

That breath of love drawing us into His circle of love… the dance of Father, Son, and Spirit. Creating an intensely personal and intimate relationship of Divinity… of man who was created out of dust and the Godhead.  An intimate relationship that would cause the angels to wonder in awe who is this man who had so captivated the attention and heart of God! This man that God would follow out of the garden, pursuing him relentlessly, refusing to let go of him at any costs. Satisfied with nothing except a restored intimate union of fellowship. Refusing to remain in Heaven without him and so sending His Son to reveal to him the vast, endless, never changing love of the Father. And to destroy everything that hindered man and to do away with the sacrificial system that was never the heartbeat of God and only served to continually remind man of his failures.

Angels standing in awe of this pure chesed. This covenant loyalty that resolved to see the end from the beginning and that refused to lose even one of His sons. Love gave us abundant life, the cool of the day experience… gave us the ability to live life in the two realms of spirit (heaven) and earth at once. No veil of separation. Walking and conversing with our Father in spirit, fully aware of the oneness of our union…. No separateness of Them and us. No concept of where I end, and They begin. Just simply US…. Father, Son, Spirit, and mankind. Yahweh Elohim. And expressing that union… that divinity as we walk simultaneously on earth. Ruling and reigning over ALL creation as sons, as masters of ALL. What is man that you are mindful of him that You made him a little lower than Elohim and crowned him with glory and honor? Crowned him… encircled him, encompassed him, surrounded him, exalted him with divinity. Mankind made kings and lords….. gods. Given all authority, all dominion, all glory. Image and likeness of God. Eternally. This never changes from God’s heart… love never withdrew any of this. All of this was breathed into man and has continued to be our breath, our very existence even in our unawareness. Our lost identity was our own amnesia… God’s heart and mind were resolute, firmly fixed about us. Never wavering. From the first man until today and from Genesis to Revelation, Abba was always calling out to man, to His sons saying, “This is who you are! I’ve never changed my mind about you! You have always been, always are, and always will be loved, accepted, divine… eternally one with Us.

Ephesians 1:5 says God predestined us unto the adoption of sons. Literally what it means is In love, God chose to mark out our boundaries/horizons before the foundation of the world in sonship. I like the definition of horizon… it is where the earth and the sky meet… sonship! Love created sons in His image and likeness… sons reflecting heaven on earth. Reflecting divinity in the natural realm. Adam left this boundary or horizon of sonship. By believing the lie about his divinity, he was no longer able to reflect heaven on earth. No longer living in the cool of the day. No longer aware of his union with God…. His oneness with God.

The other day I was studying Genesis 3:8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.  As I was reading this, Holy Spirit took the verse and divided it into two parts… and they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day and, part two as and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. I saw this instead of one event that happened rather as two events.…before the fall and after the fall. Between part 1 and part 2 is Adam and Eve partaking from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. We don’t know the timeframe between when Adam was created and when he fell… I believe the division of this verse reflect that it wasn’t immediate.

Prior to that their only knowledge of God was part one, and they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day. It begins with, “and they heard.” Heard in Hebrew is shema… which is to hear and respond with the heart. To respond in love. It is to say yes to whatever is asked before you even know what is being asked… just yes because of love. Shema is truly our hearts responding YES Abba! It is a YES response because we know who we are IN HIM. Adam’s disobedience… his failure to “shema” was after he believed a lie about who he was IN CHRIST. Before that we see, “and they heard.”  The word “and” is the Hebrew letter vav attached to this word shema. It is also a connector of heaven and earth… spirit and natural. It is first found in Genesis 1:1 connecting heaven and earth. Adam and his wife heard from the spirit realm and responded in the earth realm…. Reflecting their divinity in the natural realm that they lived in. No separation between spirit and physical in their lives… they merely lived in the complete awareness of their oneness with Father, Son, and Spirit.

Then the rest of part 1 of Genesis 3:8 is a picture of the fullness of God in the garden that Adam and Eve walked in. Garden in Hebrew is gan and means enclosure. Genesis 2:15 says that God placed man in the garden.  In is “bet” in Hebrew and is a picture of a tent. It is a dwelling place and a source of origin… a place of rest. God placed man in this dwelling place, this enclosure of oneness in Him. Enclosed IN HIM.  Enclosed in the Godhead… in divinity. In the rest of the verse, we see the fullness of Who man is enclosed in.

The Bible is poetic and symbolic and not always word for word literal. Sometimes sentences in Hebrew are challenging to capture in words because they express an idea instead of a translated sentence. In the first half of this verse, you see the following Hebrew words. Aleph tav which is an untranslatable word in Hebrew. It is a grammatical direct object marker. But just as Jesus is the Alpha and Omega, He is the Aleph (beginning) and the Tav (end). And they heard Aleph Tav… they heard and responded in love with Jesus. The next word is kol which means sound or voice.  John called Jesus the Logos or the Word. One translation captures the idea of logos so beautifully by using the Voice.  And they heard the Kol…. Adam and Eve heard and reflected the sound and the beauty of the Voice in their lives on earth.

The next words are Yahweh Elohim (Father, Son, and Spirit) walking in the cool of the day. Yahweh Elohim walking in Spirit, conversing in Spirit, loving and living in Spirit. It is the Son of Man, the I AM, the Creator of ALL things in Elohim! Yahweh Elohim is what John saw and tried to describe in John 1:1 IN the beginning, IN Jesus, and Jesus IN face to face union IN God, and also God IN Jesus. All John could say was IN… in a dance of such beautiful union and love. This Yahweh Elohim that we are introduced to in Genesis 2 with the creation of man… the creation of sons. Sons, IN the beginning, IN Jesus, and IN face to face union IN Elohim and Elohim IN us! It’s what Jesus described in John that ALL may be ONE, as You Father IN Me, and I in You, that also they IN Us may exist!

And they heard. What did that first man and woman hear? IN! Union! Oneness! This is My Son in whom I am well pleased! Yahweh Elohim breathed this life of eternal divinity IN man (Genesis 2:7), and then They placed (fixed!) man (Genesis 2:8) IN the enclosure (garden) of their union of love. Can’t you just see it? Yahweh Elohim, bending over man, breathing into him ALL of Themself….Their very Breath of Life. Withholding nothing! They knelt down, face to face with Adam (barak) imprinting this face to face experience in man forever… no matter that Adam and generations after him would lose the awareness of their identity IN HIM, they would forever in their hearts have this face to face experience imprinted in their hearts. Yahweh Elohim merged INto Adam Their very Divine Being. He poured Himself completely into him… filling him with the totality of His life, His Spirit, His Faith…. Injecting into them His very DNA. And then immediately enclosed (garden) Him in Their embrace (union). All of this Adam and Eve heard and responded to in love…. Walking, talking, loving and living life IN Yahweh Elohim.

Then came the second part of Genesis 3:8. Adam’s response to his hearing and listening to another voice… the voice of lack, of nakedness. This second part of the verse begins with, “and they hid.” The first part of the verse began with a completed verb… a finished tense. They heard… they were living life from a completed, finished way of thinking. Knowing who they were IN Yahweh Elohim… loved, accepted, holy, righteous, complete, whole… DIVINE! This second part of verse 8 begins with an incomplete tense verb “hid.”  Reflecting the fact that now they are hearing out of incompleteness, out of lack, and nakedness. No longer believing they are image and likeness of God, but that God withheld a part of Himself… His divinity from them when He breathed His life into them.

And out of that feeling of incompleteness Adam and his wife responded by hiding from the presence or face of Yahweh Elohim. Withdrawing from the face to face experience that they had up to this point enjoyed with Father, Son, and Spirit. Withdrew from the cool of the day experience. In truth, you cannot hide if you are inseparably ONE. Adam and Eve didn’t literally hide behind some trees in an actual garden. They simply withdrew from the love of God. Instead of seeing themselves IN Yahweh Elohim, they now saw only their own incompleteness and lack as a result of partaking from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. In their minds, they had severed the enclosure…. Their oneness with Father, Son, and Spirit. Fear caused them to turn from God. In truth, they could never sever their union but only their experience of it… their participation in. They had however hardened their hearts (hid) and severed (among) their understanding by closing their eyes (tree) to their enclosure (garden) in the ONENESS that is Yahweh Elohim and man!

Adam and Eve abandoned that intimate connection of oneness with the Father, and as a result, they lived life from the flesh or the sense realm.  From what they could see, hear, touch, etc. And as a result, man lost their identity as sons. They forgot their origin. But God didn’t! He sent Jesus – Aleph Tav, Yahweh, I AM, Creator of All, Beloved Son – who was IN Elohim to remind man who they were and always had been.

The Gospel revealed the eternal love of God for mankind. The work of the cross didn’t come to make us someone we weren’t already. Jesus didn’t come to make us new or even come to make us alive. He came to wake us up to who we always were from the Father’s perspective. He came and unveiled the reality of what was always true about us… we thought we were ungodly and unrighteous and separated from God. But we have always been IN Christ… IN Yahweh Elohim. Our divinity was never lost. Our dominion was never lost. We just lost our awareness of it. That loss of consciousness resulted in our having a wrong perception of Him and blaming Him for everything. But the earth was made subject to man… to the divine nature of Adam. Adam was the sovereign lord of his environment… the sovereign god of the earth. The heavens are of the Lord but the earth He has given (finished tense!) to the sons of Adam.

Adam knew who he was before he fell. He lived in the awareness of his god-ness, of his divine nature. We make the garden event time sensitive… God rests and then the next day man barely got to take a breath before he fell.  There were probably hundreds of years of an intimate relationship that existed between Adam, Eve and Yahweh Elohim. Adam had probably been exercising his lordship and dominion on the earth for quite some time. The earth was created to be in absolute subjection to the sovereignty of God… but not the Creator God but rather His son – Adam. And although he carelessly abandoned his god role on this earth, his inner voice continued to say that it was god who was responsible for the earth. Whatever happens, is the ruling or absence of the judgment… the decision and decree of the sovereign lord. But man didn’t realize that his inner sense was pointing to himself (god), not to his Creator God. Because that face to face experience of the Breath of Life breathing divinity into him was forever imprinted on man’s heart. Although they lost their awareness of it, their inner man… their spirit… still remembered. But because in his carnal thinking he no longer realized he was god, he assumed the inner voice was indicating that God (capital G) was responsible.

Jesus in John 10, after talking about His relationship to the Father as a Son in ONENESS, He quotes Psalm 82:6. Reminding them of their own divine nature… that they are gods (image and likeness of God).

Verse 5 in Psalm 82 describes the condition of mankind that came through Adam. It says they do not know, they do not understand. Know is yada to know through first-hand experience, it is an intimate knowledge. Understand is to perceive, discern and understand. They lost their intimate awareness of Yahweh Elohim. Then it says they are in darkness. They’ve lost their revelation (light) of who they are!  Sons of God….divine beings made in the very image and likeness of Yahweh Elohim.  And finally, they walk about unstable. Walk unstable are incomplete verbs… they are walking about with a false mindset. A mindset that says you are incomplete, imperfect… deficient! Unstable is mot and means to be cast, fallen, decay, to slip. They are continuing to walk in a fallen mindset, feeling cast out (separated). Not understanding we have never been out of ONENESS… we were placed in the enclosure of oneness. Placed in is to be FIXED. Unmovable… except in our thinking, in our awareness and participation.

Man’s thinking was revealed in verse 5, BUT God’s knowledge… His truth is shown in verse 6 – I said you are gods, you are ALL children of the Most, High God!  I love that said is in the PERFECT, COMPLETED tense. Where did He initially say that?  Genesis 1:26! Man may have been walking about in perception of being incomplete, BUT God ALWAYS speaks from a FINISHED awareness. He says ALL are gods and sons… image and nature of Him… COMPLETE, WHOLE, DIVINE.  Just like Abba!

Man has never been defined by his actions. His actions have never altered who he indeed is. Verses 2-4 in Psalm 82 is God expressing some of man’s failures… they judge unjustly, they don’t defend the poor and fatherless, they don’t do anything to free them from the hands of the wicked. Then verse 5 becomes a conversation… He has spoken to the gods, to men, made statements about their failures and NOW in verse 5 Elohim is having a conversation among Themselves.  Father, Son, and Spirit are having a conversation about mankind not realizing their divine nature… that they are gods. Instead, they perish like mere flesh in their ignorance (v. 7). Not realizing they have His divine breath within them! That we are flesh of His flesh and bone of His bone… ONE.

1 Corinthians 6:17 says He who is joined to the Lord is one spirit, HIM! We quote that to include “with Him” but with was added by the translators. We have a single spirit – HIM!  This ONENESS is a full man union… it’s not just our spirit. We have His mind, and we are members (limbs and parts) of His body, of His bones, and of His flesh!  1 Corinthians 6:15 says do you not know that YOUR BODIES (soma – physical body) are members (limbs and parts) of Christ. That ONENESS encompasses ALL of me… spirit, soul and body. IN Him we live and move and have our being. He is ALL in ALL. There is no me apart from Yahweh Elohim! He FILLS my spirit, soul, and body.

I once heard that if you don’t understand Genesis, you will have a hard time understanding the Bible. It wasn’t until I began looking at the beginning, seeing God’s plans and purposes for mankind, that I started living in greater awareness of my union IN Yahweh Elohim in greater awareness of my own divinity. Jesus removed ALL that hindered that awareness and yet we still feed from the DO to BE tree… not realizing that we ARE. We go to church crying out for His presence, for Him to rain down on us or fill us with His glory. Not realizing the FULLNESS of who we are. Living from a perceived existence of incomplete.

Ezekiel 43:11 says And if they be ashamed from all that they have done, shew them the form of the house, and the fashion thereof, and the goings out thereof, and the comings in thereof, and all the forms thereof, and all the ordinances thereof, and all the forms thereof, and all the laws thereof: and write it in their sight, that they may keep the whole form thereof, and all the ordinances thereof, and do them. If they are ashamed from all, they’ve done… if they are confused from living life out of mistaken identity. Not living as exalted sons with a divine nature to rule and reign in this earth. Living instead in an awareness of the lower realm living, incomplete, less than the divinity that they are. If they are still going to church seeking an outside God, a far-off God, make known to them the house.

God says, “Make known… teach them to be intimately acquainted with the house. With who they are… My house, the dwelling place, the enclosure of Yahweh Elohim. Make them intimately familiar with their design of divinity.. made in My image and likeness.  With their arrangement. Arrangement is measurement, proportion, marked off, perfection, plan, sum, preparation, and fixed place. Reveal to them that their boundaries/horizons were marked out in sonship. That I chose them IN Christ before the foundations of the world…. Blameless and holy face to face IN Me in love. Let them know they were predestined, called, justified and glorified from before time began. Reveal to them that the sum of ALL things is that Christ is seated at My right hand AND they are seated NOW in heavenly places in Christ. Make known their entrances and exits… comings and goings. Tell them they are FILLED with the fullness of Me, and the and I am IN them, AS them and I flow through them effortlessly.  And as for all its ordinances and laws, those were nailed to the cross, and the only law is the law of the Spirit of Life IN Christ Jesus that they need to be concerned about.  And make known — write it in their sight, engrave it in them, so this can be their revelation —  that IN CHRIST (Aleph-Tav) they are WHOLE, their design is COMPLETE and that IN CHRIST (Aleph-Tav) ALL the statutes, and ordinances are DONE. There is no more for them to do but REST IN Yahweh Elohim.”

How different would their lives be if to them we declared the end from the beginning? If we would stop looking for the 7th trumpet to sound and realize that it’s the clear sound of the finished work of Jesus. It’s the sound of maturity and perfection that we already are. In Revelation 16:17 the 7th vial is poured out and a LOUD voice from out of the temple of the throne… we are His temple.  Out of our spirits is the voice saying IT IS IRREVERSIBLY DONE – which is gegonen in Greek, a perfect active indicative meaning – its effect will never diminish!
