Healing — part 5 – Eternal Covenant of Wholeness – Bible Study

Notes for Bible study are below video

I. Intro

Let’s go back to Exodus 14:30: so, the Lord saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians

  • remember our foundation — the things that happened TO Israel were examples FOR us and were written for our instruction (or mind placement, how we are to think about these things written)
  • the Lord SAVED Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians and Israel saw the Egyptians — sickness, disease, poverty, fear, addiction, etc. — saw them dead on the seashore
  • 2 things we need to see in this verse
  • They were SAVED that day out of the hand of the Egyptians
  • They SAW the Egyptians dead on the seashore
  • This happened to them but was written FOR US – but we’ve failed to grasp what it means for us
      • because we’ve had a wrong understanding of the word saved and we haven’t seen sickness, disease, lack, fear, etc. DEAD and no longer in our midst.

II. Saved

  • We’ve taken the word saved and made it about missing hell and making heaven; about forgiveness of sins and receiving eternal life
      • we’ve made it about something we GET rather than who we are and what mankind has ALWAYS had IN CHRIST
      • And we’ve made it about something we DO to get it – ask Jesus in our hearts, repent, get baptized, stop sinning, etc.
  • Saved in Hebrew is yasha and it’s a weighty word – it means to deliver; to rescue, to liberate, to give victory to;
      • it is to transfer from one realm, one reality, one experience ALL THE WAY to another realm, another reality, another experience.
  • The Israelites were saved – they were delivered out of the realm of Egypt (a type of sin the condition)… out of the experience of the Egyptians (a type of death) – sickness, disease, poverty, fear, etc.
      • They were liberated and given victory!
  • In the Hebrew it says So saved Yahweh in that day
      • We think it’s only talking about this particular day for Israel – but in the Hebrew it has an untranslatable word after in that day
      • It says So saved Yahweh in that day Aleph-Tav
          • Aleph Tav is a marker pointing to Jesus (Alpha Omega in Greek; Aleph Tav in Hebrew)… pointing to our eternal covenant in Jesus
      • We could say it this way – So Yahweh saved in that day – IN CHRIST
  • Then it goes on and says Israel from the hand of the Egypt.
      • Yahweh saved (all mankind) IN CHRIST (before the foundation of the world)
      • Israel was experiencing that salvation in the day they were delivered, rescued from Egypt – transferred from the realm of death (Egyptians) to life, transferred from the reality and experience of Egypt onto the God side of the Red Sea
          • Liberated and given victory — heading for the promise land.
      • But remember it was written for OUR instruction – for our mind placement
  • What are we to understand from this part of the verse?
      • That salvation had been eternally decided in the heavenly places (Exodus 14:30 – the aleph tav points to the eternal covenant with man IN CHRIST)
      • Remember, saved is not about going to heaven and missing hell – it’s the transfer of one realm, one reality, one experience to another; it was being rescued and given liberty and victory!
  • So, when were we saved?
      • Yahweh saved us IN CHRIST in eternity past, we were also saved 2000 years ago at the cross (He became sin and we became righteous – delivered from one realm, one reality, one experience (sin) to another (righteousness)), and we were saved when we believed in Jesus (in that we then experienced the salvation that was always ours)
          • And we are being saved daily or should be – by walking daily in the experience of our salvation – in health, prosperity, wholeness in every area!
  • 2 Timothy 1:9: “Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus BEFORE THE WORLD BEGAN”
      • The Greek word saved is sozo — it means to live saved; to live protected; to live in divine health; to do well; to be whole;
      • v. 10 says: But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel
          • Jesus brought the truth of our life and immortality to light through the Gospel…. He enlightened it, He shed light on what had always been true about us – our salvation before the foundation of the world
          • He shed light on the truth that we were in God’s plans safe, protected, healed, well, whole — SAVED — before God said let there be light!!

III. See them dead

  • And the second thing we are to see in this verse is They SAW the Egyptians dead on the seashore
      • Saw is perceived, to understand;
      • Remember Egyptians were a type of death – sickness, disease, lack, fear, etc.
  • They were dead on the seashore 2000 years ago at the cross… Jesus destroyed sin and death (sickness, disease, poverty, etc)
      • And they were supposed to remain dead on the sea-shore but the church revived them — once again becoming familiar with sickness and disease;
      • We haven’t learned how to see, perceive, or understand those things as dead on the seashore
  • Remember Deuteronomy 7:15 the diseases of Egypt which you have known….
      • We have co-existed with them considering them normal
      • And we have considered our experiences with cancer, heart disease, diabetes, etc. as inevitable in this life – just a part of aging, or bad food choices, etc.
  • BUT the Lion of Judah ROARED IT IS FINISHED overthrowing ALL sickness, disease, poverty, fear, lack, depression, addiction, etc!!
      • We haven’t understood that God had slain them for our benefit – overthrown them in the midst of the sea
      • Not understanding that the ONLY connection with sickness and disease is SIN – the condition
      • Not understanding that the condition of sin and its effects of death were destroyed 2000 years ago.
      • Not understanding that sickness and disease are not of biological origin
          • ALL disease originated and sprung up from that spiritual condition called sin – Deut 7:15: the terrible diseases OF Egypt (sin).
      • Not understanding that He put away the condition of sin by the sacrifice of Himself once for all
      • And not understanding if we aren’t in the condition of sin anymore than sickness and disease no longer exist either.
          • UNLESS we remain sin conscious — because where there is a consciousness of sin there is a consciousness of death – sickness, disease, lack, etc.
  • Paul said in Romans 6:11 Reckon yourself DEAD to sin and alive to God!
      • our thinking has to change – we have to see sickness and disease as it really is – dead on the seashore; overthrown by Jesus
      • it’s time to make up our minds that we’re going to think differently BEFORE we have to deal with these things
      • we need to make a decision AHEAD OF TIME and choose to walk in a different realm of understanding
          • and it takes time for that realm to become familiar to us – because we’ve been familiar with sickness and disease for a long time
  • We’re not wanting to live from miracle to miracle, from healing to healing – we want to live in the fruit that remains – the revelation that He is the health of my body therefore health is the manifested experience

IV. Diseases were OF Egypt – NOT of God

let’s go back to Exodus 15 verse 26: I will put none of the diseases upon you that I have brought upon the Egyptians FOR (Because) I AM the Lord who heals you

  • This statement is similar to John 10:10 the thief comes not but to steal, kill and destroy BUT I have come that you might have life and life more abundantly
  • God right here is drawing a line of demarcation — the word because is a separator here
      • He says NONE of the diseases OF Egypt BECAUSE I AM the Lord your Healer – or literally, I AM the Lord your Health
      • the word “because” provides justification for that first portion
          • He says you’re no longer of Egypt and disease — BECAUSE now you’re OF Me and I’m wholeness
  • NO LONGER are you associated with Egypt and disease BECAUSE NOW you’re associated with Him and He is WHOLENESS, SOUNDNESS, ABUNDANT LIFE!
      • He is perfect health and well-being in every respect – IN HIM there is NO sickness, disease, lack – no death whatsoever
          • And you are ONE with Him – As He IS so are you in this world – now
          • IN you is NO sickness, NO disease, NO death whatsoever – ONLY ABUNDANT LIFE
  • God wanted it to be absolutely clear to Israel and He wanted it to be absolutely clear to us and so v. 25 says He made a statute and an ordinance for them – and for us
      • and this is the statute and ordinance:  I’ll put none of these diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians BECAUSE I AM THE LORD YOUR HEALTH!
          • the word statute means to point or decree
          • ordinance means a regulation or a law
  • What we’re being told here is God decreed a regulation concerning the health of His people
      • God decreed it — He appointed a law with regards to His people and health
      • Romans 8:2: For the law of the Spirit of life IN Christ Jesus hath made (past tense; finished tense) me free from the law of sin and death (sickness, disease, poverty, fear, addiction, etc.).

V. Sickness NOT in our midst

Exodus 23:25: And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.

  • This happens a few months later after Exodus 15
  • He says – I WILL TAKE SICKNESS AWAY FROM THE MIDST OF YOU
      • God is telling them what He has done – “will take away sickness” is in the perfect tense in Hebrew – the past tense; finished tense;
      • midst means center; heart; inward part
      • YLT says ‘And ye have served Jehovah your God, and He hath blessed thy bread and thy water, and I have turned aside sickness from thine heart;
          • past tense! FINISHED tense!
          • I HAVE TURNED aside sickness from your heart
  • So, it wasn’t actually confirming His promise BUT RATHER stating what He had ALREADY DONE — I HAVE TURNED aside sickness from you
      • talking about your heart, your inward parts — again verifying that sickness is of what?
          • It’s of spiritual origin – not a biological origin
      • He said I HAVE TAKEN it away
  • So, what He’s saying to us is this — by My presence in you I HAVE removed sickness
      • in other words – I fill that place that sickness used to occupy
      • and when sickness comes knocking there is no place for it to enter in
  • Romans 8:11 if the same spirit that raised Christ Jesus from the dead DWELLS IN YOU, He will quicken (give life) to your mortal body
      • that’s exactly what’s being said here in Exodus
      • I HAVE TAKEN — OR HAVE TURNED ASIDE SICKNESS FROM YOUR HEART
      • I am in you and sickness can’t be with Me
  • But remember — you have freedom of choice
      • God’s never going to violate your freedom of choice
      • if you desire to go ahead and associate yourself with the Egyptians once again you’re free to do that
      • He won’t make you walk in anything He’s done for you
  • He hates to see you down there on your knees on the seashore breathing life into those dead things on the seashore – like sickness and disease
      • and we do that — saying and believing things like “oh I’ve had this in my family for 50 years!” or “this is hereditary” or “it’s flu season”
  • BUT you don’t have to have sickness or disease or lack or fear!  It’s ALL dead on the seashore and has been for 2000 years!

VI. Covenant of Wholeness

Go to Deuteronomy 1:3: And it came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, that Moses spoke unto the children of Israel, according unto all that the LORD had given him in commandment unto them;

  • all I want you to see in this verse before we move on is this — this is in their 40th year in the wilderness
      • this is 40 years after God told them “I AM THE LORD WHO HEALS YOU”

Now go to Deut 7:6-9: For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for His prized possession, above all peoples on the face of the earth. (7) The LORD did not set His affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than the other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples. (8) But because the LORD loved you and kept the oath He swore to your fathers, He brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. (9) Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps His covenant of loving devotion for a thousand generations of those who love Him and keep His commandments.

  • He will keep the oath —he’s talking about the oath He swore to Abraham
      • which was that the Israelites would come out after 430 years of bondage
  • but let’s go on for a moment…. go down to verse 12: If you listen to these ordinances and keep them carefully, the LORD your God will keep His covenant with loving devotion, as He swore to your fathers.
      • now I believe He’s talking about what He swore to their father’s 40 years ago
  • v. 13-15: He will love you and bless you and multiply you. He will bless the fruit of your womb and the produce of your land—your grain, new wine, and oil—the young of your herds, and the newborn of your flocks, in the land that He swore to your fathers to give you. (14) You will be blessed above all peoples; among you there will be no barren man or woman or livestock. (15) And the LORD will remove from you all sickness. He will not lay upon you any of the terrible diseases you knew in Egypt, but He will inflict them on all who hate you.
      • I believe right here He’s referring to the oath He had made with them 40 years prior besides the covenant He had made with Abraham because He includes – I will remove from you ALL the diseases of Egypt which we saw in Exodus 15:26
      • notice He’s talking about covenant and mercy for a THOUSAND generations
      • did you know it hasn’t been a THOUSAND generations yet?
          • A generation is 40 years
          • It hasn’t been 40k years since the children of Israel came out of Egypt
          • and you know that’s only intended to show us that it’s FOREVER — it’s not number/year focused
  • He said I’m keeping this covenant and mercy for a THOUSAND generations
      • the word mercy in Hebrew is chesed meaning covenant love or covenant loyalty; it’s His love that refused to let us go!
      • He said the Lord will keep with you the covenant and kindness which He swore to your fathers
      • then vs 13-15 we read what the covenant and kindness of God entails – love, blessing and abundance!
      • covenant is stronger than law
      • And then again — He says I HAVE taken (it’s past tense) from you ALL sickness
  • So, this is what I want you to see — the law of healing… of divine health that He spoke to them in Exodus 23:25 has now been elevated to covenant status here in Deut. 7:15!
      • in 40 years, it went from being the law of healing… the ordinance and statute of divine health — to COVENANT STATUS TO A THOUSAND GENERATIONS — FOREVER!!
  • Final point — 2 distinct words that are being used here — sickness and disease
      • we use them interchangeably BUT they aren’t
      • disease is exactly how it sounds “DIS-ease” — weakness, pain, infirmity or discomfort; almost exclusively used with regards to physical ailments
      • sickness is a much broader word; means malady (disease); anxiety, grief; calamity (disasters);
          • this word reaches into the soul… not just the physical body
          • and it also speaks to protection in EVERY area!
  • ALL of this is His covenant of WHOLENESS!
  • His covenant of health, of protection, of provision, of love, blessing and abundance spoken here to Israel and to a thousand generations!
  • But in reality given before the foundations of the world — Ezekiel 37:26: Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them:
      • not a future promise of MAKING a covenant – but a past tense, finished tense I HAVE MADE A COVENANT – an eternal one IN CHRIST before the foundations of the world
