God’s seasons

I take an online Hebrew class every Monday afternoon. A couple of weeks ago, I was working on my vocabulary flashcards and I came across the word “season or time” which is “et” or עת in Hebrew. And it got me thinking about it’s meaning.

Most of the prophetic words I hear are about seasons. Season of miracles, season of favor, season of restoration, time of breakthrough, etc. Almost all of these use Old Testament Scriptures to confirm them. And the focus is on “doing.” For example, God will release favor in our lives if we’re faithful to do all He has said.

I love the prophetic. There have been times I’ve received prophetic words in my life that confirmed what the Spirit of God had already spoken to me regarding His direction or things concerning my destiny. And it gave me the boldness to act on it… to walk it out.

I don’t have an issue with “seasons” per se. But the problem with seasons is it keeps us focused on a timeframe. One of the aspects of me and my husband’s business is farming. Farming is seasonal….. even in California where we farm year round. We still have seasonal crops. If we’re not careful, we catch ourselves using “catch phrases” that box us into ways of thinking in particular seasons. For instance, cherry season is financially great, apple season we can finally rest, summer fruit season is BUSY, December – January is our leanest season, etc. While all of that seems to be true in the “natural,” it can keep us boxed into certain expectations or limitations. Keeping us walking in by sight and not by faith.

Prophetic “seasons” can do the same. They keep us future focused on what Jesus is going to do, instead of what Jesus has already done. They keep us looking at just one thing for the “season” such as God’s favor instead of looking at the FULL finished work of Christ in our lives and the truth that He has given us ALL things that pertain to life and godliness NOW.

So while I was studying for Hebrew and noticed the word season is “et” or עת in Hebrew. It is made up of the letters “ayin” and “tav”.

“ע” which is ayin in Hebrew is the idea of seeing and watching as well as knowledge. ayin (Gen 6:8) referring to the eyes of the Lord. a word describing an eye…or insight or seeing or perceiving with God’s perspective.

“ת” which is tav in Hebrew meaning cross or the sign of the covenant.

I love that! God’s seasons in our life are all comprised of seeing things from His perspective, and that perspective is Jesus and His finished work (Heb 1:1-3). In every season of my life, I should expect to the finished work of the cross to be in operation in my life. No matter what a natural season may look like in my life, it is still a season of favor, abundance, health, goodness, grace, wisdom, breakthrough, prosperity, sonship, freedom, deliverance, etc.

Luke 4:19 Jesus declared it a “year of God’s favor or a year of Jubilee.” Year is a cycle of time… a season. The root word for Jubilee in Hebrew is yabal, which means “to flow.” Jesus provided a continual flow for us in every season of our life. We don’t just have a season of favor, a season of peace, or a time of abundance. We have a lifetime of continual fulfillment…. of the ALL things that He provided for us for life and godliness.

I still read prophetic words that come across my path about seasons, but now I read them as a reminder of what Jesus has done and what is already mine. Not dependent upon what I do, but mine by inheritance. I read them as God highlighting certain things that are part of the finished work so that I can grow in my knowledge of them. Gain more understanding of these things so that I can walk in victory.

What did the finished work of the Cross provide? That’s your season! Walk in the revelation of it. Walk in the victory of it.

Shevat 5777 (2016)

blessed-1 Wow, it’s been almost two months since I’ve written on this blog. I’ve meant to, but life sometimes just gets busy. And time does fly when you’re having fun.

We spent seven weeks down in San Clemente at the end of the year, and it was lovely. We rented a condo that had a panoramic ocean view, and I spent the time just relaxing, reading, and spending quality family time with my husband and kids. Just allowing God to refresh my soul. I slept better than I had in a long time. I spent dinners, coffee dates and beach time with good friends who have become more family than friends. Just simple, pleasant long chats with girlfriends who encourage me, build me up and cause me go farther with God. I was also teaching the book of Hebrews at our church down there as well as doing my weekly online teaching of the book of Romans. The Hebrews study is finished, and we are wrapping up our Romans study next week. So, I’ll now have more time to devote to this blog, and I’ve been putting together notes and studies for a book I’m working on.

We are almost at the end of the month of Shevat. Shevat is spelled shin-beit-tet in Hebrew. Shin is a picture of a crown. Beit is a house, household or family. Tet is the letter for goodness. Shevat is a reminder that God has crowned our households…..our families with goodness. Psalm 65:11 “You crown the year with your goodness, and your paths drip with abundance. Another translation says even the hard places overflow with abundance.

Asher is the tribe associated with the month of Shevat. Asher means blessed or prosperous and comes from the root word “ashar” meaning to go on, to advance or to make progress. Asher was blessed with the potential for every earthly blessing – abundant resources, the most fertile land in Canaan, many children, peace with the other tribes, the favor of God and security from enemies. He is known as the prosperous one.

His blessing from Moses indicated both prosperity and pleasure. Asher is the blessing beyond the norm – to be given more than what is necessary for just basic survival. 2 Cor 9:8 “And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others (New Living Translation).” 1 Tim 6:17b “….. place your confidence in God who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.” We are meant to not only be prosperous but to enjoy that prosperity, both the spiritual and earthly riches.

We are in the decade of 70 on the Hebrew calendar which means ayin. Ayin is symbolic of the ability to see or perceive and the choice of good and evil. This decade (2010-2019) is a season to have increased vision. To open our spiritual eyes and begin to see from God’s perspective.

From God’s perspective everything He is ever going to do for us has already been done in Jesus. 2 Peter 1:3 “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.” Has given us… it’s past tense. It’s already done. All that we have to do is receive it and walk in it. To do that we have to change our perception and see it as God does. Sometimes our vision gets clouded by our five senses and by circumstances in life. At times, others words can cause us to see ourselves through their perception of us instead of God’s. God’s Word is a mirror. When we look into it, we see who we truly are. Created in His image and His likeness. We are joint heirs in Christ.

Exchange your vision for His. Begin to see that He has already given you everything you will ever need for life… and for godliness. Allow God to do the exceedingly, abundantly, above all you could ask, think, hope or imagine in your life this month in and through you!

This month walk in the revelation of all that God wants to do in your life… the prosperity He wants to pour out on you… not just enough but overflow. Prosperity AND pleasure! Walk in His goodness, in His richness. This is a month to go forward and continue on in the inheritance He has blessed us with. In Shevat, let’s remember to enjoy His bounty in our lives… to be happy…. full of joy, proclaiming “I am blessed with prosperity and pleasure in Christ Jesus”. This is a GOOD month.

Tevet – 5775 (2015)

chesed My mom nicknamed me Pollyanna Sunshine when I was little… because I have always had an abundance of optimism. Truly it’s a gift from God that I cherish. I have always tended to always look at things through a heart of hope. I love just simply believing what God says and looking for His goodness… His redemption in all things. I’m learning to read the Scriptures through this lens of redemption… through my Father’s eyes. We will always find grace in His eyes…..Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD

When I’m studying the Hebrew months I look for goodness and hope… for something that encourages and causes me to grow higher in Him. Each month was given by God with a unique purpose and is designed to release a blessing of revelation of His goodness into our lives. I pray that my study of this month and this season gives you fresh hope of the goodness of God and all that He has for you.

Tonight we enter into not only a new month on the Hebrew calendar, Tevet (Dec 13th – Jan 10th).. but also a new season, Winter. Winter is the season to plan for increase in the next season. Tevet is the 10th month on the Hebrew calendar… 10 is a number of divine order … 10 is also 5 + 5… five being the number of grace or in this case a double portion of grace. This month walk in the double portion of grace available for you… choose to walk in the fullness, in the grace that Jesus made available for us. He paid it all so that you could have it all! It’s a free gift (Eph 2:8).

The first two letters in the word Tevet is “tov” which is the Hebrew word for good and it is followed by the letter tet which is also a letter connected to the word good…. so the word Tevet from beginning to end is a word full of God’s goodness.

While I LOVE the Christmas season, I realize not everyone enjoys it. It can be a time of bitter disappointments, sadness over loved ones gone, rejections of family members, depression, etc. It can also be a financially stressful time for many. But in this month of Tevet, let’s declare it as a month of God’s goodness from beginning to end.. allowing Him to lavish us with His goodness, His grace, and His favor.

Tevet is also connected to the Hebrew letter “ayin”. Ayin means the eye. This month purposely choose to see things through the Father’s eyes. Seeing circumstances through the eyes of faith and hope… and seeing others through the eyes of love, grace, and redemption. Read the scriptures through the lens of the finished work of the Cross and the Resurrection… it will change how you read it!

Each month is associated with a tribe of Israel. The tribes were divided into four groups of three. This Winter season included the three tribes: Dan (the leader of this group), Naphtali and Asher. They formed the “rear” guard of the camp and were the ones to watch out for the enemy attacking the camp from behind.‭ ‬These three formed the rear guard, not because of military skill but because they brought the glory of God. They were the most creative of the tribes… Dan were skilled craftsmen in all kinds or artistic work, Naphtali brought forth beautiful words, and Asher caused the land to flourish.

This Winter season let’s understand that His glory is our rear guard (Is 58:8)…. knowing that we are His most artistic work, and He is speaking over us such beautiful words and causing us to flourish in the land.

Dan is the tribe connected to Tevet. Dan in the Hebrew means to judge. Dan’s ensign was the eagle! Dan is one who can see the prey afar off‭ ‬-‭ the ‬one who soars on high in the Spirit and get the heavenly perspective on things.‭ ‬His judgement takes in the full scope of the scene and from his viewpoint,‭ ‬he is able to objectively give good direction and accurate assessments of situations.‭ ‬As a result,‭ ‬he is called to judge Israel.‭

Let’s judge correctly this month… soaring on wings of eagles and judging things through God’s eyes of love and mercy…..of goodness….. of grace.

May this season be full of the goodness of God, full of His glory (Ex 33:18-19)…… Merry Christmas (Celebration of Christ) from our family to yours!

This season I judge correctly… judging things through God’s eyes of love and mercy, of goodness….. of grace.
